AEGIS Loss Control is pleased to announce its latest webinar, AFFF Environmental Issues and Replacement Considerations, on August 2 at 2:00 pm EDT.
As companies look to reduce their environmental impact, professionals responsible for fire protection systems need to understand the potentially detrimental effects of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) found in some aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) fire suppressants. This important webinar provides an overview of replacement alternatives to the harmful chemicals found in AFFF fire suppressants, which pose a serious environmental threat.
Who Should Attend
Power plant employees, risk management professionals and individuals engaged in the design, maintenance and operation of AFFF fire protection systems would benefit from attending this webinar.
What is Covered
AFFF is a fire suppressant used to fight flammable liquid fires. It has been used within power-generating facilities and many other facilities since the late 1960s. PFAS are used in AFFF to make the mixture foamy and create a film that helps extinguish fires. These chemicals, present in some AFFF solutions, are highly resistant to degradation and pose serious environmental concerns.
This webinar will focus on the environmental issues associated with AFFF and explore the current efforts regarding AFFF replacements.
About the Presenter
The webinar will be presented by Joseph McElvaney, P.E., Lead Fire Protection Engineer for the Hiller Companies. Joe worked as a Fire Protection Designer for Wormald Fire Systems and as Project Manager for the Schirmer Engineering Corporation prior to serving the City of Phoenix Fire Department for over 23 years and then joining Hiller in 2018 as their Lead Fire Protection Engineer. Joe has an A.S. in Fire Science from Northampton Community College, a B.S. in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering from Oklahoma State University and an M.S. in Fire Service Administration from Arizona State University.
